The First Step I Took When I Began Eating Intuitively

Blog post titles-2

As many of you know or may have read on my About page, I battled and overcame two eating disorders in my life.

When I battled anorexia nervosa for the second time at the age of 16, it took me years to free myself from the eating disorder that had such a strong hold on my life. I saw a team of health professionals and committed every day of my life to getting better for several years.

Once I was free of anorexia, disordered eating tendencies still lingered throughout my life. Restriction was still present and this lasted for several years until one day when I woke up and realized, I could not live like this for another day. That is when the biggest changes started to take place.

I started to make changes in the way I lived my life, thought, and perceived the world around me, which I plan to share with you in future blog posts, but today I want to share with you the first step I took when I began eating intuitively.

As I said, even after overcoming anorexia, restriction, food obsession, and disordered eating tendencies were still very much a part of my life and it was intuitive eating that finally allowed me to break free.

After so many years of restricting and obsessing over my food choices, intuitive eating was something completely new and foreign to me, but all it took was one small mindset shift that allowed me to begin the journey of freedom I was about to embark on.

Freedom cannot be accomplished when restriction is present, so I needed to remove all restriction from my life or, as I like to say, I needed to “lift the walls of restriction”. In order to do this, I had to adopt the mindset that I could eat whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted. The end. Simple as that. No rules attached.

In order to truly free yourself, you really need to allow yourself to be free.

  1. Omg! I absolutely love this post! Thank you for sharing. I feel like I am just realizing the SAME about myself!!! I had very disordered eating for some time, and although it wasn’t exactly anorexia nervosa, I was in a pattern of restricting, and binging, and this is something that I am just realizing now (even though I have made major improvements, and eat completely healthy foods), still exists in my life! It’s time to throw all my restrictions out the window, because I believe that if I follow my body’s intuition, for what it wants, that this will be what will ultimately lead me to the healthiest, and happiest life for myself! 🙂

  2. can’t wait to watch the videos…your podcasts are so inspiring and are one of the several major factors as I have begun a journey from obsession with weight & food to health both in body and soul and seeing myself as who God made me to be. It’s still a huge process but love your inspiration and focus! Thanks for being a voice out there in all the chaos!
