Today we’re welcoming a soul sister of mine to the Freedom Friday Interview series! Michelle and I have been friends for years and she’s overcome many health struggles throughout the years, which is why she is such a strong person today. Enjoy her story of freedom!
1. I am so happy to have you on as a Freedom Friday guest! Give us a little background about yourself before we dive into the juiciness of freedom and how it applies to you and your life!
I am Michelle from the blog purelytwins.com. I run a few online coaching programs helping women from all over discover their inner goddess. Learn to love their bodies through fitness, balanced diet and self-love. I help them create a fit success mindset and live a life they love.
I’ve overcome a long battle of constipation, digestive issues, binge – restrict eating cycle, overexercising, depression, hormonal imbalance and major skin issues like acne and eczema. I created my own freedom map to live and discovered my self worth. I’m grateful I get to help others do the same.
On the blog I share things that have helped me so they can help other women who are going through the same thing. I share short home workouts, gluten-free and grain-free recipes, beauty and lifestyle tips, and mindset tips. I believe in having a balanced life.
I love relaxing with some wine and watching my favorite shows on Netflix or Hulu. I love my job and can find myself working a lot. I am blessed to be an aunt to 3 amazing girls. If you don’t see me sipping on green juice or cups of coffee, you’d probably see me eating tahini and cacao nibs right out of the jars.
2. What does “freedom” mean to you?
Great question and something we ask our clients too. Freedom to me means to have a mind that is clear and focused. No longer cluttered with negativity. A place of peace with no rules. A place of relaxation and laughter. A place of confidence. No more anxiety around food, hating my body, or worrying about what others think. Freedom means I have enough money for all that desire. Freedom is living life. The messy, emotional and hard parts too.
3. Share about the time in your life when you lacked freedom. What was your struggle?
I would say college was when I first felt lack of freedom. You might be wondering but college is the place you are free to do what you want. But this is when my binge eating and overexercising took over my life. I was miserable inside and didn’t know how to get out. They were some of my darkest moments back then. I heavily relied on what others people’s opinions were, what people thought about me and followed what others said to do.
I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life so I was had so much anxiety my senior year. This is when my skin exploded, which only made me feel more stuck because now my hunt and obsession to “fix” me went to a high new level.
4. What was your turning point? When did you realize that you needed to embrace freedom?
Honestly just a few years ago was the turning point that hit me hard. I
finally started taking action and taking the time to learn myself. I had to hit rock bottom with my health and eczema that it was my sign to change.
For so many years I tried so many times to heal myself. But failed. Still never feeling good enough. I found myself going back to self sabotaging habits because I didn’t get to my root cause – worthiness.
I remember the night. I was around 3 am in the morning (when you have eczema you don’t sleep because you are itching all the time). I was crying like most nights, but something inside me said this is it. No more. Battling this for over 3 years I was tired.
I prayed to God just like every other night for signs. I began to heavily get into positive affirmations, spirituality books and meditation. I’ve always liked this stuff just felt it was never for me – going back to not feeling worthy. They just worked for other people. But something changed in me. I remember reading somewhere something like right before you breakthrough you will face your biggest battle.
That was all I needed. Those words. I knew my breakthrough was coming.
I had to make a deep commit to myself that I deserved better. I started choosing happiness. I started to take better care of my mind and my inner self. I started to create my freedom.
5. How do you allow freedom into your life on a daily basis?
Through gratitude and love. It’s a daily practice, but I see the positive out of everything. Is this easy? Sometimes yes but most of the time – no. It’s hard to be more positive when things aren’t going as well as you planned. Our brains are wired to be negative.
I make it my goal everyday to do things that bring me joy and happiness. This helps me feel free and alive. Living the life I want. I focus on how do I want to feel. I want to feel good so I make decisions around that.
6. I believe our journey towards freedom never truly ends, it just continues to progress to more and more freedom. How have you challenged yourself recently to embrace more freedom into your life?
Well I recently moved so having the freedom to kind of start fresh was amazing. I’ve been tweaking my routines and systems to help create more freedom.
I keep investing in myself. I see my worth and no longer question things. I sit with it, ask for guidance from the universe and then take inspired action. I look at the bigger picture and no longer have a major melt down if something doesn’t go as planned.
My business has grown so that has helped with feeling more free. I see more opportunities everywhere and I think in abundance.
7. What is one golden nugget of wisdom you can provide to those who are currently struggling with embracing freedom today?
First – You have to discover YOU. What makes you smile? What makes you feel good? What gets you excited?
Second – Stop playing victim and start taking action. Face fear. Fear is always going to be there so learn to work with it to create shifts in your life.
Third – Dream big and believe anything is possible. Believe you are worthy and deserve all that you desire.
8. And before we say good bye, how can we stay connect with you over social media?
