5 Ways To Use Frankincense Essential Oil

One of the questions I’m asked most is, if I could only use one essential oil for the rest of my life, what would it be? And my answer never changes, nor will it ever change.

If I could only use one essential oil for the rest of my entire life, I would choose Frankincense.

Frankincense essential oil is known as “The King of All Oils” because of its long list of uses and benefits – that’s why you may have heard, “when it doubt, use Frank!”

Today I am going to share with you why it’s my favourite essential oil of them all and five different ways for you to begin using it in your daily life:

1. Reduces stress, anxiety, and heightened emotions. 

I know stress, anxiety, and all related emotions – think racing mind, negative thoughts, and feelings of overwhelm – are something that many of us women here struggle with. I know these feelings very well as I spent much of my life suffering from anxiety, depression, and other negative thoughts. Frankincense is an incredible oil to use when you’re in need of grounding, calming the mind, and relieving stressful emotions. Frankincense is always the first oil I reach for whenever I am not feeling calm, centred, or grounded. It has been my saving grace in many situations and I truly wish I had this oil years ago when I was going through some very dark times and was very much in need of calm, peace, and grounding.

How to use it: I recommend inhaling Frankincense straight from the bottle to provide calming emotions. For grounding, apply to the bottoms of your feet with a carrier oil, such as fractionated coconut oil.

2. Enhance your yoga or meditation practice. 

Because of Frankincense’s ability to provide grounding feelings, it is one of my favourite oils to use while practicing yoga or meditation, but it is also very beneficial for yoga and or meditation because of its ability to open up spiritual channels, allowing us to connect with our higher power.

How to use it: For yoga, I apply Frankincense to my wrists and yoga mat. For meditation, I like to have Frankincense diffusing throughout the room, but it’s also the perfect essential oil to use for your root chakra, allowing your energy to flow through the chakras.

3. To support you in tapping into your truth and becoming more intuitive. 

Each essential oil has an emotional component and name, Frankincense is known to be The Oil of Truth. What this means is, Frankincense supports our mind, body, and spirit to connect with our self – our true self – by supporting us in releasing false truths and beliefs we’re holding on to. When we are able to release what is no longer serving us, we will be able to become intuitive and speak our truth. This entire process was very key for me and my self-love journey, guiding me to the intuitive and connected state I live in today. How to use it: The throat chakra has to do with communication and Frankincense is the perfect oil to use if you’re experiencing a blocked throat chakra! I would recommend applying Frankincense to your throat chakra, along with a carrier oil, while declaring an affirmation that speaks to you. Something like, “I am confident and speak my truth” would be a great place to start!

4. To support brain health. 

As an eating disorder survivor, one of my greatest passions and an area of research I’m always reading up on is brain and mental health. When you inhale an essential oil, the molecules pass the blood-brain-barrier, resulting in positive health benefits for the brain and other body systems. One of the compounds found in Frankincense, sesquiterpenes, has been shown to have the ability to increase oxygen within the brain by up to 28%. The increase of oxygen can help the brain heal, improve concentration, and support other imbalances throughout the body, such as compromised immunity or imbalanced hormones.

How to use it: Diffusion, topical application, or taken internally. Remember, when using essential oils internally, you have to be sure the essential oils you’re using are 100% pure! That’s why I choose to use doTERRA only. This way, I’m guaranteed that I am only ever using 100% pure plant oil. You can read more about this here.

5. For skin health. 

The second most frequently asked question I receive is, what do I use for my skin care? I didn’t always have the most clear and glowing skin, but I’m proud to say – my skin is vibrant today because of my essential oils! I’ve made tweaks to my diet here and there, but nothing has improved the look, feel, and health of my skin more than essential oils have! Frankincense is well known for its ability to improve the health of our skin – it can even reduce or completely eliminate scars or stretch marks!

How to use it: The skin care line I use already has pure Frankincense essential oil added to it, so I don’t have to add it myself! If your skin care doesn’t have Frankincense in it, I would recommend adding 1 drop of Frankincense essential oil to your daily moisturizer!

I could go on and on about the many ways I use Frankincense on a daily basis, but I’ll stop here and end with one of my favourite diffuser blend recipes that includes Frankincense essential oil: 2 drops each of Frankincense, Copaiba, and Siberian Fir.

    I also love diffusing frank during meditation. It truly helps ground me. I made a roller with frank, vetiver, ylang ylang, clary sage, and lavender that a roll on all over for a sense of peace and calming. After reading your article, I plan to have a bottle on hand to inhale when in need of grounding on the go as I also deal with anxiety. Thanks love! <3
